Lockheed Martin Corp. (NYSE: LMT) gets potential $7.4 billion contract

Lockheed Martin Corp. (NYSE: LMT) has won a U.S. Air Force contract potentially worth $7.4 billion for upgrades to its problem-plagued F-22 Raptor fighter jet, designed to be the premier U.S. combat plane. The contract is for system upgrades, added capabilities and enhanced performance of the radar-evading jet, the Defense Department said in a digest item on Friday.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security company that employs about 126,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The Corporation’s 2010 sales from continuing operations were $45.8 billion.
